The past year brought significant volatility and uncertainty as attorneys responded to challenges including a pandemic, economic strains, and renewed emphasis on racial justice and DEI. Those challenges include the work from home environment that left team members meeting by phone or video, distributed across time zones, and working with regulatory agencies and Courts who are changing operations. A key to success in this environment is creating a high performing legal team or department.

Research in management and organizational behavior emphasizes that highly collaborative teams share not only a common goal but that a key factor in success is how every team member is treated by others (civility) and each person’s contribution is valued (diversity and inclusion).

After this session, participants will understand:

• Why and how highly collaborative teams outperform others

• Key dynamics of high performing, collaborative teams

• How to encourage these dynamics in legal teams to foster collaboration with an emphasis on civility and inclusion (DEI)

• Strategies to foster collaboration in remote work and hybrid environments
